For those concerned and anxious engineers who are using a Kinect, Orbbec is the answer to your sleepless nights. Orbbec is, by far, the most reliable replacement for the Kinect. The Xbox Kinect was one of the most revolutionary devices for its time. It allowed gamers to interact with their games in entirely new ways by using their bodies and the area around them. One of the major software developments that came from the Kinect was its skeletal tracking. Now that the Kinect has been discontinued there is an immediate need for a new device with skeletal tracking for engineers worldwide.

Orbbec is the only true replacement that can provide developers with a “Kinect-like” device that pairs well with Orbbec’s new Body Tracking SDK. (which works similarly to the Kinect skeletal tracking) Just over a month ago, Orbbec released its Beta version of the Orbbec Body Tracking SDK for Windows. Since that time, Orbbec has been toiling away with a broad group of brilliant engineers and developers to help fine-tune the Orbbec Body Tracking SDK for Windows.

In order to better its product support, Orbbec recently put out a survey targeting developers who use the Orbbec Body Tracking SDK for their projects. The three areas that all the responding engineers needed support for were Linux, Android and Unity 3D. In order to provide a much-needed addition, for the developer community, Orbbec plans on releasing its expanded SDK with full support for the Linux and Android operating systems along with support for the Unity 3D programming language. By December, engineers will be able to use the operating system of their choice to develop a product using the Orbbec Body Tracking SDK.

As 3D camera technology continues to grow and move forward, Orbbec has shown that it has the hardware and the software to replace Kinect. They have been honing 3D technology for years and their team has the know-how to deliver exceptional products and services. Today, Orbbec has the largest variety of 3D cameras available on the market. Click here to learn more about the Orbbec Body Tracking SDK.
